The summer has officially started! My favorite show is back and I am so excited to tell you all about it.
I have been watching Big Brother since season 16 and ever since then I have watched every summer that it has been on. This post will teach you about Big Brother, talk about this season and my picks to win, and give you recommendations for where to start your Big Brother watch party.
Hosted by the iconic Julie Chen-Moonves, Big Brother is a competition reality show that is currently on its 27th season. Episodes air every Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Here’s the breakdown:
There are 100+ cameras and 100+ microphones scattered throughout a house on the CBS lot in Los Angeles California. 16 houseguests enter the house together at the beginning/mid summer. They are being watched and recorded for 24 hours, non stop. The game is broken down into 3 main components, HOH, Veto, and eviction.
At the beginning of the week, players will compete against each other to win the Head of Household. The HOH holds the most power for that week and needs to be very strategic about how they go about their game. Usually a couple days later, the HOH nominates 2 houseguests for eviction (this season there are 3 nominees).
The nominees have a chance to take themselves off the eviction block by playing and winning the Power of Veto. This competition is played by the HOH, nominees, and other houseguests chosen at random draw (if needed). Whoever wins the Veto is guaranteed safety for the rest of the week. If another houseguest wins the Veto, they can either keep nominations the same or choose to take someone off the block. This would force the HOH to make a new nomination for eviction.
Then eviction night. Seasons 26 and 27 have a new competition called the Blockbuster Battle where the three nominees get another chance to earn safety for the night, taking them off the block. Once everyone is sat and Julie appears on the TV, the live voting and eviction takes place. All houseguests go 1 by 1 to the diary room and cast their votes to evict one of the nominees. The HOH and the nominees cannot vote. The HoH only votes in the case of a tie.
So now you know the basics, let dive into this season!
Season 27 is already very messy in the 1 week they have been in the house. So my friends play a fantasy big brother and I will show you my current picks below:) The beauty of this show is that they cast people from every background, so they have a range of experiences and ideas in the house. They also brought back Big Brother legend Rachel Reilly as a twist and she has completely changed her game up and I am loving it.
These are my picks:
Katherine, Zach, Lauren, and Ava
My pick to win is Lauren. I really love her gameplay. She is talking to people but staying lowkey. She is a secret super fan so she knows the game. I really like her so far. Zach I picked because I know he will be a comp beast, winning physical comps and he will go far in the game. Katherine and Ava I picked for their vibes. Katherine is a no BS girl. She says it like it is and I like that. Ava is actually hilarious and I know her Diary Room confessionals are going to be iconic.
Let’s give some recommendations for which seasons you should watch depending on what you want from the show!
Secrets and Deception:
If you want to watch seasons with great gameplay, social manipulation, and full of secrets, I recommend watching seasons 16 + 17.
Season 16 is one of my favorites because of just how wild the gameplay was. Lies about jobs, back stabs and blindsides. These seasons really showcased just how important a social game can be and that you can go very far in the game based solely on who you connect with and the lies they believe. You have big brother legends on season 16 Nicole, Derrick, Cody, and Frankie. Zach has some of the best diary room moments. Season 17 has twists, Vanessa, James, and Da’Vonne. Just good seasons to watch!!
Drama, Drama, Drama:
In my opinion, the best season of all time is season 10. This season has the most iconic fight of all time in Keesha’s Birthday Party. Dan Gheesling is the greatest strategic player of all time and I suggest watching season 14 to see more of his insane gameplay. I would also recommend watching season 12 for the drama lovers. Enter Rachel Reilly, one of the most iconic players of the game. Her fight with Ragan is crazy iconic. Brittney has THE best diary room moments and makes fun of actually everyone in the house. Season 19 with Paul and Josh also have some crazy moments! More recently, Season 26 with Angela was crazy and filled every episode with drama!
Best Competitors:
Seasons 6 and 7 have Janelle. that’s it. Janelle is the comp beast, and regarded as the best big brother competitor. Season 7 has the Chilltown alliance that took over the season. I would highly recommend watching these seasons first for a great start to your big brother journey.
Season 20 had Tyler who is an absolute comp beast and dominated the challenges all season long! Sam was also hilarious in the diary room!
Season 23 had the cookout alliance which completely took over the show and solidified the first black winner of big brother! Such an iconic alliance and a good season to watch.
Best Underdog stories:
Season 24 has the ICONIC Taylor Hale! She was bullied and singled out day 1 and her resilience and poise kept her in the house and winning. She is a great example of how to not let others get to you and to trust yourself and your gut.
Season 18 has Paul, Victor, and Nicole, three great examples of underdogs in big brother. If you like an underdog storyline, Victor’s is the best in the history of BB. Battle backs, evictions, and more!
Best Showmances:
Season 12- Rachel and Brendon: Chaotic, emotional, and very unforgettable.
Seasons 11+13- Jeff and Jordan: Very wholesome couple and fan favorites.
Season 25- Corey and America: Young love, opposites attract, my favorite!
Other Iconic Players:
Danielle Reyes- Seasons 3 + 7 player who had the right gameplay but wrong execution. Will go down in BB history as a great player.
Dr. Will Kerby- Seasons 2 + 7 player who is a strategic mastermind and plays really dirty. A fun watch.
Evil Dick Donato- Seasons 8 + 13, very chaotic, bullied and tormented quite literally everyone.
Michael Bruner- Season 24 comp beast. A great player who was running the house by winning a ton of comps.
America Lopez- Season 25 player. The most Gen Z player so far. She is my personal favorite player to watch and she is just so funny.
I know this is a lot of information but this show is such an amazing social experiment! I suggest watching Season 6 first, then 10, then 16. Those three are the best seasons of Big Brother and I think if you are only watching a few seasons, those are the ones to watch.
What do you think? Would you want to be on Big Brother? Let me know in the comments!
Happy Wednesday everyone! See you next week:)
